Long ago, in the days of unrecorded human migrations, a crossroads emerged where a traveler could arrive from any corner of the world. Across the ages, this intersection of ancient roads shaped the destiny of a town nestled by a river, surrounded by hills, mountains, and cliffs. In this geographical, cultural, and civilizational crossroads, at the crossing of centuries, the city of Nish emerged and endured.
“The roots of Nish extend deep into prehistory, to the Bubanj-Humska culture. Its trunk was fortified by the might of the Roman Empire and the birth of the most powerful Roman emperor, Constantine the Great, who is celebrated by the entire Christian world as the protector of faith. It was enriched by the Byzantine civilization, which found in it an administrative, cultural, and military stronghold.”
