A Time Machine: Nish

Exhibition / Author

Thursday-Thursday / AUGUST 24 – SEPTEMBER 7, 2023 / Cultural Center of Nish / Officers’ Club

Time and space, their mutual relation, represent the core of my artistic research. Acting in the field of new and expanded media, I’m trying to find new challenges over and over again, giving myself the freedom to play with them, sometimes going to other times and other spaces. But each time I return and intensify the present moment.

And as the next moment from the future unfurls into the present, the former moment of the present has already become a fragment of the past. Thus, into infinity, we believe that our senses grasp only one time, one permanence. Yet, the realm of digital augmented media grants the chance for reevaluation, an expansion of perception of the sensually observed reality. Through the exhibition and project “A Time Machine: Nish”, the author presents an opportunity for us to encounter multiple distinct eras upon a solitary locale, guiding us towards the intrinsic bond between space and time.

The author, via this exhibition, also alludes to the spirit encapsulated within the essence of the location. For this purpose, material from the Historical Archive of Nish was used as a starting reference, along with photographs, sketches, images, and art prints by visual artists from Nish, primarily Ivan Vuckovic, a renowned visual artist and one of the most significant chroniclers of old-time Nish. Through the application of augmented reality, the selected locations attain a state of being “alive”, and this digital permeable membrane, akin to a time machine, permits us to concurrently experience multiple diverse temporal epochs of the same locale, all within a singular instant. Thus, inspired by the vision of this exhibition’s creator, we are compelled to philosophically scrutinize the present experience of a single time, a singular endurance, and potentially validate the existence of this crafted time machine.
